A new city audit found that, during recent renovations at City Hall, the previous city manager submitted a Purchase Order for “a custom pecan wood table” costing $28,000, even though this item was deleted from the original contract because of cost concerns.

Extravagances like this make it impossible to understand city council’s constant push for higher property taxes. Austin city government has enough money sloshing around, it’s simply not using it in the right ways.
