AUSTIN – Today, the Texas Public Policy Foundation released two radio ads centered on bringing reforms for home and landowners during this special session.
“Homeowners have a lot to gain this special session if the Legislature is willing to address two related and urgent problems, escalating property taxes and forced annexation,” said Dr. Kevin Roberts, executive vice president of the Texas Public Policy Foundation. “Forced annexation subjects landowners to rules, regulations, debts and taxes on which they never had the opportunity to vote, while escalating property taxes are forcing some Texans out of their homes. Homeownership has simply become unattainable for others.”
The 30-second ads are playing in major Texas markets. The property tax reform ad focuses on several key points, including the fact that homeowners are being taxed out of their homes, that increases of more than four percent should receive a vote from taxpayers, and that the time for reform is now.
The forced annexation ad highlights that declaring land to be part of a city without allowing a vote is taxation without representation.
Both issues are presented as a part of the opportunity for comprehensive conservation reform possible during this special session.
