AUSTIN – Today the Texas Public Policy Foundation officially announces Mikael Garcia as the Director of Public Affairs.

“Mike brings not only a rich experience to his work at the Foundation but also a personal commitment to liberty that makes him a natural fit,” said Kevin Roberts, TPPF’s executive director. “We are fortunate to find someone who represents the Foundation and the interests of Texans so well in the Capitol and beyond.”

Stephanie Matthews, vice president of public affairs at TPPF highlighted Garcia’s range of experience.

“With a strong background in state government, law and intergovernmental relations, Mike will play an essential role in TPPF’s success, especially in the upcoming legislative session,” said Matthews. “This is the perfect time for Mike to join our team.”

Garcia most recently worked in the Texas House of Representatives. While attending the University of Texas, he served as an intern for President George W. Bush’s Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, where he was tasked with working with state legislators from across the country on various White House initiatives.

“After a decade of working for different legislators that span the political spectrum, I am very excited and honored to begin working with the brilliant minds at the Texas Public Policy Foundation to help further the mission our forefathers left us—to defend individual liberty, personal responsibility, and respect for the free enterprise that has long made Texas such a desired destination for people and businesses across the globe,” said Garcia.

During his time at St. Mary’s School of Law in San Antonio, Garcia clerked at the Pacific Legal Foundation where he fought for liberty and individual rights by helping litigate against property encroachments by federal, state, and local governments.

He lives in Austin with his wife and daughter where they are parishioners of St. Mary’s Cathedral in the heart of downtown.
