AUSTIN – Today, the Texas Public Policy Foundation is pleased to announce that Stephanie Matthews will serve in the newly created position of vice president for public affairs.
“Stephanie’s legislative expertise, coupled with her gift for building relationships, makes her the perfect person to guide the Foundation’s work with the Legislature,” said Brooke Rollins, president and CEO of TPPF. “Stephanie has a well-deserved reputation for bringing people together for noble initiatives—an approach that will serve not only TPPF, but all Texans and Americans, well.”
Prior to joining TPPF as director of the Center for Education Freedom, Matthews served as the chief of staff for Sen. Donna Campbell. Previously she was the director of external affairs for one of Texas’ largest and most diverse charter school systems, Responsive Education Solutions.
Matthews started her career working for George W. Bush, first on his gubernatorial campaign and then in his legislative office.
Rounding out the public affairs team, TPPF’s senior director for public affairs, David Guenthner, will continue to serve in that role.
“I’m grateful for the service that both Stephanie and David provide to connect the Foundation’s academic-quality research with decision-makers,” said Dr. Kevin Roberts, executive vice president at TPPF. “As the Foundation continues to grow, our public affairs team will lead the way in translating our research into policy success.”
Matthews expressed her eagerness to begin the new role.
“I couldn’t be more excited to tackle this new role at TPPF, which marries my passions for liberty-based policy issues and external relations,” said Matthews. “Having spent the better part of my career in and around the Texas Capitol, I know firsthand the decisions made at that building really do affect the lives of everyday Texans. I look forward to bringing the principled ideas born at TPPF to the hard-working elected officials that serve our great state.”
Matthews and her husband Matt live in Austin with their sons Knox and Hale.
