AUSTIN – Derek Cohen, Policy Analyst with the Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Center for Effective Justice, will testify before the Texas House Corrections Committee on Wednesday, October 8, at 1:00 p.m. Central Time in Room E2.012 of the Texas State Capitol. The hearing will review the correctional facilities and processes within the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) with emphasis on efficiencies, effectiveness, and recidivism.

“The Texas Juvenile Justice Department is to be commended for their proactive approach in containing costs passed on to hard-working Texans,” said Cohen.  “By bringing correctional officers’ training hour requirements more in line with their national peers, TJJD is seeking to maximize efficiency by getting officers in the units sooner at no cost to substantive instruction.”
