The Texas Public Policy Foundation submitted a coalition letter to the State Board of Education, Governor Greg Abbott, and Education Commissioner Mike Morath regarding the approval of new charter schools in Texas.

“In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has uprooted existing institutional structures and put millions of Texans into precarious financial positions, Texas families are struggling, and need as much flexibility and opportunity as possible so that they may secure an education that best suits their children,” the letter reads.

“By welcoming the growth and introduction of new charter operators and structure in Texas, the state will be encouraging efficient, innovative new actors while simultaneously encouraging efficiency and achievement in traditional public schools,” the letter continues. “We ask, for the good of Texas students, that you allow these approvals to go forward unimpeded.”

In addition to TPPF, the letter is signed by Americans for Prosperity, The Libre Initiative, Families Empowered, The Miles Foundation, Ed Choice, Texas Business Leadership Council, Texas Families First, Texas Federation for Children, and Yes. Every Kid.
