Join the Texas Public Policy Foundation for a conversation with former U.S. Senator Phil Gramm on his book, The Triumph of Economic Freedom: Debunking the Seven Great Myths of American Capitalism.
Since the Industrial Revolution, capitalism has fueled remarkable gains in prosperity and opportunity. But periods of economic upheaval have also brought calls for greater government involvement in the economy. Over time, that role has expanded through new regulations, mandates, subsidies, and other forms of government intervention.
In The Triumph of Economic Freedom, former U.S. Senator Phil Gramm and economist Donald J. Boudreaux take a fresh look at the Industrial Revolution, the Progressive Era, the Great Depression, America’s changing position in global trade, the Great Recession, and how those pivotal periods have shaped the way Americans think about capitalism and government.
Gramm and Boudreaux question much of the conventional wisdom surrounding these subjects. Looking closely at the historical and economic record, they argue that government intervention and failed public policies, rather than economic freedom, have often stood in the way of greater prosperity.
TPPF Chief Transformation Officer Joshua Treviño will sit down with Senator Gramm to examine what the historical record tells us about capitalism, government intervention, and the policies that create opportunity and prosperity.
