State Sen. Eddie Lucio, D-Brownsville, is stepping down after three decades in office. During his time as vice-chair of the powerful Senate Education and Finance committees, Lucio enacted education reforms such as the creation of a new medical school in South Texas, and improving and expanding bilingual education. A former teacher and coach in Brownsville, Lucio has long championed education in Texas, and worked to expand access to charter schools and competency-based education. Join TPPF’s Michael Barba and Sen. Lucio as they reflect on Sen. Lucio’s service, as well as his hopes for the future of Texas education.
