Sky-high public sector salaries have become a sore spot for many Texans, especially considering how much tax bills have grown in a relatively short period. But you may be wondering—exactly how much are these elite few making?

In a previous post, we looked at the highest paid superintendents in Texas (with the top administrator raking in more than $500,000 annually!) In this post, let’s turn our attention to city manager salaries. It has been said in the past that: “Texas [is] home to some of the most highly compensated city managers in the nation.

Using the Texas City Management Association’s 2022-23 Salary Survey, we can get a partial sense of the compensation provided. I say partial sense as TCMA’s survey does not include every city in its list and it leaves out many of Texas’ largest cities, like Austin, Dallas, and El Paso. Even still, it helps to illuminate the landscape.
