Former U.S. Senator Phil Gramm has a message for his fellow Texans: It’s time to end forced annexation in the Lone Star State.
In a just-released video, Senator Gramm calls on policymakers “to right a terrible wrong that’s occurring in our state” by overhauling municipal annexation policies in Texas. Right now, cities are allowed to annex people and their property without consent, effectively forcing their taxes, debt, and regulatory schemes onto property owners who don’t have a voice in the process. All of which is “the opposite of what Texas is about,” and it’s time for a change.
