AUSTIN – Today, Dr. Vance Ginn, economist with the Center for Fiscal Policy at the Texas Public Policy Foundation will testify before the House Ways & Means Committee on House Bill 285which would eliminate school district maintenance and operations property taxes and replace them with higher state sales tax rate.

“The best way to effectively reduce the burden of local property taxes is to eliminate all of them and replace them with a more conservative, efficient, and simple reformed sales tax with an adjusted base and rate," said Dr. Ginn. "This pro-growth reform would help Texans finally own a home and achieve greater prosperity. Given property tax levy increases have far exceeded the means of taxpayers, this cannot happen soon enough.”
