AUSTIN – Today, the Texas Public Policy Foundation issued the following statement about the conclusion of the first-called special session of the 85th Texas Legislature.

“We are grateful for all the work which has advanced the cause of liberty and limited government,” said Dr. Kevin Roberts, executive vice president of the Texas Public Policy Foundation. “Texas is a stronger state because of the advancements made on issues like forced annexation, mail ballot fraud, facilities funding for charter schools and for a renewed commitment to reform education funding through the school finance study commission.

“Though progress was made in the first-called special session, Texans need additional reforms sooner rather than later. The Texas Public Policy Foundation would welcome another special session to address some pressing issues, namely the problem of ever-escalating property taxes. For Texans to flourish, that problem needs to be fixed.”
