AUSTIN – The Texas Public Policy Foundation’s (TPPF) Distinguished Senior Fellow-in-Residence and Director of the Armstrong Center for Energy & the Environment Kathleen Hartnett White and Director of the Fueling Freedom Project Doug Domenech today issued the following statements in regards to Congress taking up H.R. 3880, The Stopping EPA Overreach Act of 2015:
“These EPA regulations have devastating consequences for the American economy, including higher energy prices and higher unemployment, while having almost no measurable impact on global greenhouse gas emissions,” said White. “EPA’s endangerment finding that carbon dioxide is a pollutant to be regulated under the Clean Air Act is the root of EPA’s rogue arrogation of lawmaking power. In H.R. 3880, Congress is rightfully reclaiming its exclusive power to make laws.”
“Representative Palmer’s bill has been cosponsored by 147 members of Congress, including 22 member of the Texas delegation,” said Domenech. “It is time for a vote on this important issue.”
This week, TPPF was among 36 groups to sign a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan expressing concerns about federal agency overreach, especially the EPA’s campaign to de-carbonize the U.S. electric power sector and dictate national climate policy. Congressman Gary Palmer (R-AL) sponsored H.R. 3880 last year. The landmark bill would dramatically decrease the amount of power the EPA has to regulate carbon emissions and other greenhouse gasses.
