The Texas Public Policy Foundation commended Governor Gregg Abbott’s executive order prohibiting state agencies, local governments, and businesses from requiring vaccine “passports” in order for Texans to receive services or enter buildings. Gov. Abbott’s order comes as some groups, such as airline trade unions, have floated the idea of making them required for domestic travel and gaining access to government-run facilities.

“The Governor’s order protects personal liberties and sends a strong message to certain local officials that they will not continue to use the pandemic as an excuse for further government overreach,” said TPPF Chief Executive Officer Kevin Roberts. “The pandemic has already had a tremendous impact on Texans’ health, education, and economic well-being which will be felt for a while. Governor Abbott’s order rightly ensures Texas won’t be making those issues worse by eroding our freedoms and privacy rights.”
