AUSTIN- Today, Senator Mayes Middleton filed legislation to end the practice of taxpayer-funded lobbying. TPPF would like to thank Senator Middleton for his leadership and urgency in taking on this important issue.

“Governments are lobbying government for more government—and they’re using our tax dollars to do it,” said TPPF’s James Quintero. In fact, in 2023 alone, cities, counties, school districts, and special districts spent as much as $98.6 million to hire contract lobbyists who descended upon the Texas Capitol for the purpose of advancing a big government agenda. It’s wrong to use the public’s money to fight against the public’s interest, and it’s time to put a stop to it.”

“Texans shouldn’t have to fight their own tax dollars at the Capitol. It’s time to end the practice of local governments using our money to lobby against our values. Let’s restore the voice of the people, not the power of the bureaucrats,” said TPPF’s Jose Melendez.
