AUSTIN – The Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Center for Economic Freedom today released a paper by Clint Bolick that examines the federal immigration system. The paper, Federal Immigration Reform, Texas-Style, makes the case that the federally-dominated system benefits few and encourages illegal immigration.

“Current federal immigration policy serves neither Texas’ nor the nation’s interests very well,” said Bolick. “Misguided federal policy insures that Texas endures disproportionate burdens of immigration while failing to fully experience its potential benefits.”

“States bear much of the burden of our dysfunctional system and are better suited to understand the needs of their citizens and economies,” said Bill Peacock, vice president of research and director of the Center for Economic Freedom at the Foundation. “Changes to the current immigration system should provide for a larger role for states.”
