Last night, the full Texas Senate passed Senate Bill 19, a bill to stop local governments from using our tax dollars to hire lobbyists to advocate for more spending, higher taxes, and bigger government. It now goes to the Texas House.
“TPPF is deeply grateful to Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and Senator Mayes Middleton for the swift passage of SB 19,” said James Quintero, policy director for TPPF’s Taxpayer Protection Project. “For far too long, local governments have spent tens of millions on this unethical practice. In fact, cities, counties, school districts, and special districts spent nearly $100 million in 2023 to lobby the legislature against taxpayer interests.”
