Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released state-level labor market information for September 2016. The Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Economist Dr. Vance Ginn issued the following statement:

“Strong job growth continued in Texas during September as employers created 38,300 net nonfarm jobs—the most created by any state. This makes positive job creation for 70 of the last 72 months and brings the total jobs created during just the last 12 months to 206,800,” said Dr. Ginn. “When you look at other indicators, like the 4.8 percent unemployment rate that has now been at or below the U.S. average for 117 straight months and the fact that Texas has created 3 out of every ten jobs nationwide since December 2007, Texans have much reason to be thankful. The upcoming 85th Legislature should scrutinize every taxpayer dollar spent and cut burdensome regulation and taxes so Texans can continue to have more opportunities to achieve the best path to prosperity: a job.”
