AUSTIN – The Texas Public Policy Foundation announces that former California State Assemblyman Chuck DeVore has joined its staff on a full-time basis as a Senior Fellow for Fiscal Policy.

“Chuck DeVore has led a distinguished career in public service, from the Reagan Administration to the United States Army to the California State Assembly – and now with the people of Texas,” said Foundation president Brooke Rollins. “His full-time engagement with the Foundation is a tremendous addition to our accomplished group of scholars and researchers. DeVore brings with him a keen analytic understanding of the effects of fiscal policy, and a first-hand awareness of what happens when it goes wrong.”

DeVore represented the 70th District of the California State Assembly, which included portions of Orange County, between 2004 and 2010. He served as Vice Chair of the Assembly Revenue and Taxation Committee and was also a member of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee and the Veterans Affairs Committee.

“After a lifetime in California, like so many others before me, I found that the state of Texas, with its low regulations and no income tax, was the best place for my family,” said DeVore. “My career has been spent defending freedom abroad and at home, and I am honored now to join the Texas Public Policy Foundation in its untiring defense of the Lone Star State.”

DeVore attended California State University, Fullerton, and also earned an ROTC scholarship to attend Claremont McKenna College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Strategic Studies, with honors. He and his wife, Diane, have two daughters.

When elected to the Assembly in 2004, DeVore was vice president for research for SM&A, an aerospace engineering and management services firm in Newport Beach. He also served as an Irvine City Commissioner, Vice Chairman of the Irvine Community Services Commission and chairman. DeVore was also formerly elected as a member of the Republican Party Central Committee of Orange County.

DeVore retired from active service in the California Army National Guard with the rank of lieutenant colonel and transferred into the U.S. Army Reserve. He graduated from the U.S. Army’s Military Intelligence Officer Basic Course and Advanced Courses, the Combined Arms Services School, and the Command and General Staff College. His overseas military service includes deployments to Panama and Korea. During the Gulf War, DeVore was deployed to Fort Irwin, California where he was assigned to the Opposing Force (OPFOR). He was also called to active duty during the 1992 Los Angeles riots to patrol South Los Angeles.

Chuck DeVore is a Senior Fellow for Fiscal Policy at the Texas Public Policy Foundation.
