Delegates to the Constitutional Convention of 1787 in Philadelphia signed one of the most important documents in human history. Each September, Americans celebrate the anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the United States, which is the foundation of our unique system of government.
The Founding Fathers’ intent behind the specific language in the Constitution continues to be debated. Some claim it is meant to be a “living document” whose meaning can evolve with new societal norms. Others hold an originalist view that the text of the Constitution ought to be interpreted according to its original meaning.
