In a monumental win for businesses and consumers, the Laredo city council recently voted to allow ridesharing companies, like Uber and Lyft, to continue operating without government regulation while also removing the red tape on taxicabs.

The council’s unanimous decision to approve the motion levels the playing field for ridesharing and taxicab companies. Instead of regulations forcing these companies to be accountable to government officials, their removal empowers consumers to better hold these companies accountable.

Laredo’s decision also creates an environment where the free-market can thrive and where we’re more likely to realize lower prices, more innovation, and a better overall product.
