On Saturday, voters around the state will say YEA or NAY to at least 270 separate bond propositions worth an estimated $17.4 billion in new debt (principal only). Any new debt endorsed by voters will, once issued, be added to the existing local debt service outstanding amount, estimated at $461.3 billion in FY 2023, as well as any authorized-and-issued amounts resulting out of the November 2023 election cycle.
Given the volume of new debt constantly being considered and the consequences of a bond’s approval—i.e. paying higher taxes—it’s important that Texans know whether there is an election happening in their community and let their voice be heard one way or another.
To help, the Foundation’s experts have compiled a list of all known bond elections being decided this weekend, using the Texas Bond Review Board’s Local Bond Elections tool. The list has been organized from the most to the least expensive proposition. Do you see your local government on the list?
