AUSTIN – Today, the Texas Public Policy issued a policy paper examining the Texas Annexation Right to Vote Act.
“Texans achieved a great victory on December 1 last year when forced annexation became prohibited across a significant portion of the state,” said Bryan Mathew, a policy analyst with the Center for Local Government at TPPF. “But more needs to be done. Protection from forced annexation should not depend on the size of the county; we must extend the protections of this law to every corner of the state.”
The paper outlines where forced annexation is prohibited, how cities must obtain consent under the new law, and how counties currently not under protections of the law can come under those protections.
