Texas once again ranked as one of the most taxpayer-friendly states in the nation, according to the Tax Foundation.
Compared to the 50 states, Texas’ combined state and local tax burden for fiscal year 2010 ranked 45th in the nation, according to the Tax Foundation’s new study Annual State-Local Tax Burden Ranking. As a matter of income, Texas taxpayers paid 7.9 percent of their income or an average of $3,104 per person in state and local taxes-consistent with years past.
In fact, since the late 1970s Texas’ state and local tax burden has held at or near 8 percent, far below the national average which has hovered near the 10 percent mark over that same period.
Heading into the next legislative session, it’s critical that lawmakers not increase this state-local tax burden and instead consider ways to reduce it to keep the economy strong and vibrant.
