AUSTIN – The Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Center for Health Care Policy will host the policy primer “Let the People In! Scope of Practice Reform in Texas” on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Texas State Capitol Legislative Conference Center located in room E2.002

With the implementation of ObamaCare forcing all citizens to sign up for health coverage, Texas faces a physician shortage. As a result, thousands of newly insured patients will have a hard time finding a doctor, while those with coverage will have more difficulty accessing care. One possibility for Texas lawmakers is to relax scope of practice rules, as many other states have done, and allow advanced practice registered nurses more freedom to treat patients according to their education and training.

Panelists include:

  • John Davidson (moderator) – Senior Policy Analyst with the Center for Health Care Policy at the Texas Public Policy Foundation
  • The Honorable John Zerwas, M.D. – Texas House of Representatives
  • Christy Banco – Proprietor, Ageless Medical Spa and Clinic
  • Bill Sage, M.D. – James R. Dougherty Chair for Faculty Excellence at UT Law
