Texas Public Policy Foundation’s (TPPF) Mental Health Policy Fellow Kate Murphy is testifying before the Texas House Human Services Committee TODAY, Monday, March 23, at 2:00 p.m. CDT or upon adjournment in room E2.030 in the Texas State Capitol. Murphy is testifying on House Bill 2510, relating to the Department of State Health Services, the provision of health services in this state, and the regulation of certain health related occupations and activities. Murphy also testified this morning before the Texas Senate Committee on Health & Human Services on the Senate Bill 202, which is identical to HB 2510.

"This bill makes changes to the Texas Department of State Health Services based on the Sunset Advisory Commission's review of the agency,” said Murphy. “Some critical changes include increasing state mental health hospital capacity, improving delivery of community based behavioral health services, and eliminating unnecessarily burdensome regulatory functions that interfere DSHS's ability to protect the public health."
