Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Bryan Mathew, policy analyst with the Center for Local Governance, is testifying today before the Texas House Committee on Elections in support of House Bill 3335, regarding local debt transparency.
“Local debt outstanding is growing 2.4 times faster than population and inflation combined. Voters need more detailed information at the ballot box to restore fiscal health to local governments’ balance sheets,” said Mathew. “Every person voting on a local debt measure should know what approving the bond will cost the average homeowner in their area and how much will be required to pay it back in full and on-time.”
