AUSTIN – Arlene Wohlgemuth, Executive Director of the Texas Public Policy Foundation and Director of the Center for Healthcare Policy, issued this statement on the successful motion to reconsider Amendment 51 to SB 1:

“Amendment 51, though it did not formally commit Texas to the ObamaCare Medicaid expansion, laid the groundwork for that expansion – and in doing so sent exactly the wrong message about Texas’s commitment to resisting Washington, D.C.’s ambitions for expanding a failed program. We congratulate the House for successfully reconsidering and defeating the amendment, and we strongly urge our lawmakers to now turn their attention to real reform, rather than expansion, of Texas Medicaid.”
