Today, leaders in the Texas House and the Texas Senate introduced substantially similar base budget bills that provide a responsible spending framework for the 2026-27 biennium. Both bills utilize a conservative lens to propose limited spending increases, further tax relief, and advance key priorities, like school choice, border security, and core infrastructure development.

“Texas’ economic success owes a great deal to the state’s conservative fiscal management and steadfast commitment to small government. The budgets introduced today by leadership in the Texas House and the Texas Senate are a reflection of that resolve,” says TPPF’s James Quintero.

Quintero continued: “Texans have every reason to be highly encouraged by today’s developments. Each chamber’s proposed budget is well below the statutory spending limit, contains billions more in new tax relief, and provides robust funding for key conservative priorities, like school choice and border security.”

“We will continue working with both chambers to ensure we do everything possible to limit spending, scrutinize every program and department for further efficiencies, and return as much money as possible back in the hands of hard-working taxpayers.”
