AUSTIN—Today, the Texas Public Policy Foundation commended President-elect Donald Trump on his cabinet nominations, including retired NFL defensive back Scott Turner to lead the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

In President Trump’s first term in office, Turner served as head of the president’s White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council. A Texas native, Turner also served as a Texas state representative.

“The issues facing the Department of Housing and Urban Development can seem intractable,” said TPPF CEO Greg Sindelar. “From increasing home ownership to helping underdeveloped communities, HUD is involved in some of the most basic needs of the American people. The challenges are massive, but Scott is ready to tackle them. His heart for urban communities and the leadership skills he developed both on and off the field will serve him well. We look forward to his swift confirmation.”
