Today, the Texas Public Policy Foundation celebrated the final passage of Senate Bill 614, legislation that will ensure that no Texas families are separated without proper court oversight and bring greater transparency to the child protection system. The bill now heads to Governor Abbott for his signature.

“Senate Bill 614 addresses a little-known part of our child protection system that has become known as ‘hidden foster care,’ a process that allows CPS to temporarily separate families without court oversight,” said Andrew Brown, TPPF associate vice president of policy. “SB 614 brings critical transparency to the hidden foster care system and establishes limits on its use to safeguard the rights of Texas families. We are grateful to Sen. Charles Perry and Rep. James Frank for ensuring the passage of this important legislation.”
