AUSTIN – Today, Senator Creighton filed Senate Bill 2, which would establish Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) here in Texas. The $1 billion appropriation in the general budget and universal eligibility would make this the largest Day One program in the nation.
“Empowering parents through school choice has been a core mission of TPPF since our founding 36 years ago,” said TPPF CEO Greg Sindelar. “We here at the Foundation are excited to work with Senator Creighton, Lieutenant Governor Patrick, Speaker Burrows, and the Texas House to accomplish this foundational mission and empower every single one of Texas’ school children and parents with choice in education.”
“Senator Creighton’s bill would establish the largest day one ESA program in the nation,” said Mandy Drogin, TPPF’s campaign director for Next Generation Texas. “Additionally, the universal eligibility would ensure that no children are left out and every single parent will have the opportunity to make educational choices for their children. In doing so, every Texas kid will reap the benefit of a stronger education system—whether public, private, charter, or homeschool.”
