TODAY: TPPF’s Derek Cohen to testify before Texas House of Representatives' Corrections Committee

AUSTIN – Derek Cohen, Policy Analyst with the Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Center for Effective Justice, will testify before the Texas House of Representatives’ Corrections Committee on Thursday, May 29 at 12:00 p.m. Central Time in Room E2.010 of the Texas State Capitol. The hearing will study the correctional facilities and processes within Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, and Texas Juvenile Justice Department with emphasis on efficiencies, effectiveness, and recidivism.

“It’s encouraging to see the breadth of issues the House Corrections Committee is considering at this interim hearing,” said Cohen. “Solitary confinement, outcome-based funding models, and prisoner reentry are just a few of items under consideration that stand to improve public safety while saving Texans money.”

More information about the hearing can be found here.
