We are spending $61 billion a year on public education, but according to SAT and ACT scores, only 17 – 18% of students are college ready. For three decades, Texas courts have asked for fundamental reform of our school finance system, but we’re still stuck in a quagmire of litigation. It’s time to find permanent solutions that will help Texas children.
Last week, (TPPF) released “Texas School Finance: Basics and Reform” by TPPF Center for Education Freedom Director Kent Grusendorf, Policy Analyst Michael Barba, Center for Fiscal Policy Director Talmadge Heflin, and Economist Dr. Vance Ginn. The paper brings clarity to the complex issue of school finance in Texas and outlines reforms to make the system student centered and efficient.
