AUSTIN – The Texas Public Policy Foundation issued this statement today on the latest Texas economic statistics from the Texas Workforce Commission. The TWC reported that August 2012 saw the addition of 38,000 seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs, and a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 7 percent.
“These results are yet another indicator that the Texas Model of low taxes, limited government, and personal responsibility is alive and well in the Lone Star state,” said Foundation President and CEO Brooke Rollins. “This is further proof that an environment of less regulation and leaner government leads to more jobs.”
“With the addition of 38,000 nonfarm jobs just last month, Texas clearly remains the state in which to do business,” said Talmadge Heflin, Director of the Foundation’s Center for Fiscal Policy. “In the past year, Texas has added 279,800 private sector jobs, a 3.2 percent increase, while national private sector annual growth has been just 1.8 percent. Add the fact that Texas’ unemployment rate has been at or below the national average for 68 consecutive months, and it is clear that Texas is doing something right.”
