AUSTIN — The Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) application portal opened yesterday, giving Texas families the opportunity to be the ultimate decision maker for their child’s education. Nearly 42,000 applications were submitted on the first day, alone, breaking a national record previously held by Tennessee for day one school choice program enrollments.

“Tens of thousands of Texas families have sent a clear and urgent message: the one-size-fits-all system is failing too many kids,” said Senior Fellow Mandy Drogin. “Parents are demanding high-quality education options that reflect their children’s unique needs, strengths, and circumstances, and Texas Education Freedom Accounts answer that call. This program will open doors, restore hope, and truly change kids’ lives.”

Families will be notified of funding status beginning in early April. TPPF encourages all eligible families to apply before the March 17 deadline at EducationFreedom.Texas.Gov
