AUSTIN – Public registration opened today for the Texas Public Policy Foundation’s 10th Annual Policy Orientation for the Texas Legislature. The Policy Orientation will take place on January 12-13, 2012 at the Hilton Austin Hotel.

Since 2003, the Policy Orientation has been one of Texas’ top policy conferences each year, bringing together lawmakers, policy experts, and interested citizens from across the political spectrum to discuss the most critical issues facing the state. Last year’s Policy Orientation attracted more than 600 attendees, including dozens of state legislators and hundreds of legislative staff from both parties.

The keynote address at the Thursday, January 12 luncheon will be delivered by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. A former state assemblyman and Milwaukee County Executive, Walker was inaugurated as Wisconsin’s 45th governor on January 3, 2011. In his first year as governor, Walker has made the state’s fiscal stability and economic development his top priorities, enacting reforms that are part of a broad vision to make state government more efficient and allow the private sector to create 250,000 new jobs by 2015.

The keynote address at the Friday, January 13 luncheon will be delivered by Lou Holtz, ESPN studio analyst and college football legend. For more than three decades, Holtz was a head coach at several of college football’s most storied programs, winning 249 games and leading Notre Dame to the 1988 national championship. Holtz has written three New York Times best-selling books and is a popular motivational speaker.

At 7 p.m. Thursday, the Texas Public Policy Foundation will host the first debate of the year for the Republican candidates for Texas’ open United States Senate seat. Candidates who have confirmed their participation include Magnolia funeral home owner Glenn Addison, former Texas solicitor general Ted Cruz, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, former Dallas mayor Tom Leppert, and Dripping Springs mediator Lela Pittenger.

The opening breakfast on Thursday, January 12 will feature remarks by nationally syndicated radio host Dr. William Bennett, who will originate his program from the Hilton Austin that morning. The program also includes 14 panel discussions and a plenary session on the major issues affecting Texas’ future. The program will be updated with additional events and speakers in the coming weeks.

The registration fee for Policy Orientation is $325 and includes the opening breakfast on Thursday, the keynote luncheons on Thursday and Friday, and all panels and debates.
