AUSTIN – Today, the Texas Workforce Commission released state-level labor market information for August 2017. The Texas Public Policy Foundation’s director of the Center for Economic Prosperity and senior economist, Dr. Vance Ginn issued the following statement:

“August extended Texas’ remarkable pace of positive net nonfarm job creation to 79 of the last 83 months. The 5,500 net nonfarm jobs created last month brings the total added in the last twelve months to 298,600 jobs, the most of any state,” said Dr. Ginn. “The unemployment rate of 4.2 percent has now been at or below 5 percent, a rate considered full employment, for 38 consecutive months, a feat unmatched by comparable states. The Texas model of free enterprise combined with limited roles for government continues to support greater economic prosperity.”
