AUSTIN – Senior Policy Analyst with the Texas Public Policy Foundation’s (TPPF) Center for Local Governance Jess Fields is available to discuss his testimony today before the Texas House Economic & Small Business Development Committee on government accountability and transparency.
"Texans expect that their government will be accountable to them and represent and defend the rights of all Texans,” said Fields. “When government picks winners and losers through economic development incentives, some Texans are subsidizing special favors for others."
"At a minimum, the Legislature should require greater transparency and accountability in the economic development process. Currently, much of the decision-making process about economic development is done in secret. These kinds of decisions should be made in public and the agreements should be posted online."
