AUSTIN – According to the Texas Workforce Commission’s latest employment report, Texas continues to be a national leader in job growth. Texas’ unemployment rate for June 2013 remains unchanged at 6.5 percent – still well below the nation’s June unemployment rate of 7.6 percent.

“While Texas’ unemployment rate remains unchanged in June, the Lone Star State continues to beat the nation’s unemployment rate for 78 consecutive months, showing once again that The Texas Model of low taxes and spending, a predictable, low level of regulation, and a sound civil justice system works,” said Talmadge Heflin, Director of the Center for Fiscal Policy. “However, much work still remains to safeguard the prosperity that Texas has achieved in the past few years. Now more than ever it is important to reflect upon – and preserve and extend – the policies that have allowed Texans to prosper.”

The Honorable Talmadge Heflin is Director of the Center for Fiscal Policy at the Texas Public Policy Foundation. Heflin served 11 terms in the Texas House of Representatives and chaired the House Appropriations Committee in 2003, leading the Texas Legislature’s successful efforts to close a $10 billion budget deficit without a tax increase.
