AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Public Policy Foundation president Brooke Rollins on Wednesday announced the addition of Byron Schlomach, Ph.D., to the staff in the new position of Chief Economist.

“Dr. Schlomach brings a tremendous amount of experience and expertise to the Foundation,” said Rollins. “He has spent his career promoting good public policy based on sound economic theory, and I am excited to have him on our staff.”

Schlomach comes to the Foundation after having held several positions within the state government. Most recently, he was with the Texas Education Agency. He served during the 78th Regular Session as Chief of Staff to State Rep. Kent Grusendorf. Schlomach has also worked in the Office of the Comptroller and has taught economics at both Texas A&M and Austin Community College.

While new to the staff, Schlomach has had a long-standing relationship with the Foundation, having been named a “Senior Fellow” in 2002.

“I’m honored to join the Foundation’s staff. They have done outstanding work in years past, and are dedicated to doing even better and bigger things in the years to come,” said Schlomach. “With the possibility of a special session focusing on tax and education reform this Spring, it is an especially exciting time to come on board with the Foundation. Texans will be making decisions that will literally affect our state for a generation to come. We at the Foundation have the opportunity to provide solid, research-based information that will give taxpayers, voters and legislators the tools they need to make good decisions.”
