AUSTIN – TOMORROW, May 16, advocates and legislators will hold a press conference to promote legislation being heard that day in the Senate Criminal Justice Committee. Known as the “Second Chances Bill," House Bill 3016 by Rep. Senfronia Thompson and Sen. Bryan Hughes seeks to allow first-time, non-violent offenders the opportunity to seal their records with an order of nondisclosure.

An expansion of last session’s Second Chances Bill, this legislation is also a priority for MADD because it would require first-time DWI offenders to successfully complete an interlock program (or wait 5 years without), before they can apply for an order of nondisclosure.

  • Sen. Bryan Hughes (R-Mineola)
  • Rep. Senfronia Thompson (D-Houston)
  • Rep. Paul Workman (R-Austin)
  • Greg Glod, Texas Public Policy Foundation
  • Doug Deason, Philanthropist and president of the Deason Foundation
  • Jaime Gutierrez, Mothers Against Drunk Driving

WHAT: Press conference on H.B. 3016 that expands last session’s “Second Chances Law”

WHEN: 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16
