The Texas Public Policy Foundation presents

The Cost & Consequence of Mandating Paid Sick Leave

In February 2018, the Austin City Council passed an ordinance requiring employers to provide paid sick leave to employees. The ordinance was rushed through without any serious study of its effect on employers, its impact on the economy, or the legal challenges it could invite. With the mandate's effective date drawing nearer, many questions still abound: Who will benefit? Who will not? Is it lawful? Is it time for the Texas Legislature to act? Join the Texas Public Policy Foundation as we discuss the cost and consequences of Austin's paid sick leave ordinance.
