Matthew McCormick testifies before the Texas House Public Education Committee on restoring the teacher pipeline by reforming schools of education.
McCormick starts by illustrating that we have a teaching profession reputation crisis. He highlights the worsening quality of teacher preparation with too much emphasis placed on abstract theory and ideology and too little time spent on the classroom or on how to actually teach.
He explains that by refocusing teacher preparation programs on effective instruction, the legislature can increase the attractiveness of the teaching profession and teacher effectiveness. He argues the need to restore prestige to the teaching profession.
