During the week of June 22, 2026, the Texas SBOE is expected to finalize a reading list meant to combat the growing literacy crisis in Texas where about half of students are failing to meet grade level standards in reading.
The selected titles will form a literature list of required reading for Texas schools.
The new literature list will:
👉build literacy
👉develop an understanding of literature
👉build cross-curricular knowledge
👉provide a historical, cultural, and moral foundation for students
