Reading is the foundation of everything. Research consistently shows that students who can’t read by 3rd grade are far less likely to graduate high school and far more likely to struggle economically as adults.
The “Mississippi Miracle” shows that states can rapidly improve students’ literacy by intervening early to prevent academic struggles from compounding. Texas should use that as a blueprint to improve reading scores.
