Lexi Smith is an attorney with the Texas Public Policy Foundation’s litigation arm, the Center for the American Future. She obtained her J.D. from Baylor Law School, with law school experiences that include work in the Texas Senate Committee on State Affairs, the Texas Supreme Court, and First Amendment litigation through the First Liberty Institute. In law school, Lexi was a national moot court champion, president of the Baylor Law School’s Federalist Society chapter, and a distinguished Blackstone Fellow.
After law school, Lexi devoted her time to criminal justice matters as a prosecutor in the Smith County District Attorney’s Office. That experience offered her ample trial work in felony and misdemeanor cases. After serving her community as a prosecutor, Lexi went into private practice, engaging in constitutional litigation through § 1983 suits involving local governmental entities.
During her time in private practice, Lexi became proficient in matters related to qualified immunity, federal litigation, and suits against governmental entities. She now works for the Texas Public Policy Foundation on a wide array of constitutional matters implicating federal government overreach and local government encroachments on individual rights and liberties. Lexi is licensed to practice law in Texas, several federal district courts, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
Lexi is also a proud East Texan, wife, and mother of three. When she is not vindicating constitutional freedoms, she can usually be found on her family farm, traveling, or running the Tyler chapter of the Foundation’s Liberty Leadership Council as the Vice Chair.
