Jenna Lewis serves as the Texas State Director for Right On Crime. She brings more than a decade of experience in criminal law, public policy, and government to the role, with a particular focus on improving public safety, strengthening the justice system, and advancing effective, principled criminal justice policy.
Prior to joining Right On Crime, Lewis spent nearly five years working in the Texas Legislature, most recently serving as General Counsel for State Senator Tan Parker. In that role, she advised on a broad range of legal and policy matters and helped develop and advance legislation addressing criminal justice, human trafficking, child protection, and public safety.
Lewis has been particularly active in the fight against human trafficking. She has worked on numerous legislative efforts aimed at strengthening the prosecution of traffickers while improving protections for victims, including playing an instrumental role in the passage of an affirmative defense to prosecution for trafficking victims in Texas. Her policy work has also extended beyond Texas through her work as Policy Counsel for Atlas Free, a global network of organizations working to combat human trafficking. She has spoken on criminal justice and trafficking policy issues and has worked with advocates, prosecutors, law enforcement, lawmakers, and survivor leaders to develop practical policy solutions both domestically and internationally.
Before entering public policy, Lewis served as a prosecutor in Ventura County, California, where she developed firsthand experience with the challenges facing victims, prosecutors, law enforcement, and communities within the criminal justice system. That experience continues to inform her approach to criminal justice reform and her belief that effective policy must both protect public safety and ensure that the justice system produces fair and meaningful outcomes.
Lewis also regularly teaches a seminar on state policy advocacy and human trafficking at Pepperdine Caruso School of Law, helping future attorneys understand how law, policy, and advocacy intersect in state government.
Lewis lives in Austin, Texas, with her husband and daughter. Outside of work, she is active in her church and enjoys spending time with her family, playing with her dog, and throwing elaborate parties for her friends.
