Albert Einstein observed that “politics is a pendulum.” It’s hard to imagine, but every state can — and likely will — be flipped at some point in your lifetime. On Tuesday, it happened in long-time conservative strongholds like South Carolina, Kansas, and yes… Texas.
I was not naive enough to believe this day would never come. I am, however, too young to remember a time before conservatives held every statewide elected position in Texas. This is uncharted territory for anyone born after the creation of the World Wide Web (1990).
It would be easy to get flustered by this sudden change, but that’s not what I’ve seen from my TPPF colleagues. In fact, this has strengthened our resolve. We recognize that TPPF was built to overcome tough policy challenges with bold ideas and a “happy warrior” spirit.
There is no other place like Texas. Our fellow Texans are counting on us to protect the state’s hard-won policy achievements and ensure its continued prosperity.
I’ll leave you with this statement from TPPF CEO Greg Sindelar, which confidently declares we are ready to lead that charge:
“Tuesday’s elections ushered in new leadership for the Lone Star State. Yet the challenges facing our state and nation have not changed, and neither have our principles. Make no mistake: Texans still want the next generation to inherit a Texas worthy of its Founding.
“We now begin a new chapter in Texas’s storied history. There will be another. Until it comes, the Texas Public Policy Foundation will stand in the gap, clear-eyed fighting for the ideals that have made Texas the best state to raise a family and run a business.
“TPPF remains focused on making Texas an affordable place to live, providing lasting property tax relief, ensuring the responsible use of AI, keeping our communities safe, securing our border, and making sure we have enough reliable energy and water to fuel our growing population.
“The TPPF team will endeavor, as always, to embody the spirit of 1836. We are called to be a light, and we will lead the charge while shining boldly in the face of any challenge to protect what makes Texas special. Failure is not an option. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to keeping Texas — and America — the freest places on Earth.”
Onward.
