CAF filed this administrative petition with the Environmental Protection Agency on behalf of Delta Construction Company and five other petitioners. The petition asked EPA to revise its 2013 national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS) for fine particulate matter to make the standards less stringent because those standards were based on faulty assumptions. In the alternative, the petition asks EPA not to make the standard more stringent, as EPA had proposed.  The Clean Air Act requires EPA to use the latest scientific knowledge when setting NAAQS.  The petition provided several studies that questioned EPA’s scientific conclusions in the 2013 standards, and argued that EPA does not have the authority to tighten the standards.  In response, EPA withdrew its proposal to make the standards more stringent.
